Every question Valley callers ask
This page answers 43 questions in the words callers used on the phone. Each answer starts with the direct fact. Prices are all-in estimates; your phone quote from Eric Rental Works is final.
Timing & delivery
Do you rent porta potties by the day?
No — event rentals are priced per event, not per day. Eric Rental Works drops the unit off Friday (or Thursday on busy weekends) and picks it up Monday for the same price as one day. A Saturday birthday or a Sunday carne asada costs the same whether the unit stays one day or four.
Can you deliver a porta potty today in McAllen?
Yes, when you call before 11 AM and a truck has room on a Valley route. Same-day orders in McAllen, Pharr, Mission, Edinburg and San Juan usually arrive that afternoon. A same-day fee of about $100–$200 is quoted before you pay. Call (956) 396-3589 — same-day is booked by phone only.
My porta potty company canceled at the last minute. Can you still help?
Usually, yes. In our call log, callers lost their unit because a driver had an accident, a vendor never called back, or a booking fell through the day before. Call before 11 AM for same-day, or by 5 PM for next-morning delivery, and dispatch checks open routes while you wait on the line.
What time will the driver drop it off?
Drivers deliver between 8 AM and 5 PM in route order, Monday through Saturday, and do not deliver after 5 PM. Ask for a morning or afternoon preference when you book. The driver calls or texts 30 minutes before arriving. For an evening event, the unit is set the day before.
Will it be there before my 6:30 PM event?
Yes — because we deliver the day before. Trucks stop delivering at 5 PM, so an evening quinceañera, wedding or birthday gets its unit on the previous business day. That way you are never watching the clock on event day, and the price does not change.
Do you deliver on weekends?
Saturday deliveries run when routes allow, but most weekend events are delivered Thursday or Friday and picked up Monday at no extra cost. The office is closed on Sundays. Holiday weekends (Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day) fill first, so book those at least a week ahead.
How far ahead should I book?
Book jobsite units 1–2 business days ahead. Book weekend parties 1–2 weeks ahead. Book quinceañeras, weddings and October festival weekends 3–6 weeks ahead. Restroom trailers book out first in spring and fall, so reserve those 4–8 weeks out.
I don't know where it goes yet. Can I tell you later?
Yes. Book now and text the placement spot to your dispatcher before delivery day — a photo with an arrow works best. If you will be home, the driver calls 30 minutes ahead and you can show them the spot in person.
Cost & payment
How much does a porta potty rental cost in McAllen?
A standard porta potty for a weekend event in McAllen runs about $249–$299 all-in, with delivery and pickup included. A 28-day jobsite rental with weekly cleaning runs about $175–$199 per cycle plus a one-time delivery fee. Eric Rental Works adds no fuel surcharge and no card fee.
How much is the porta potty with the sink inside?
The deluxe 2-in-1 unit — flushing toilet, urinal and hand sink in one — runs about $286–$360 per event in McAllen. Renting a standard unit plus a separate handwash station costs more, because a handwash station alone is about $199. That is why most party hosts choose the 2-in-1.
How much is a handicap porta potty?
A wheelchair-accessible unit runs about $270–$320 per event in McAllen with delivery and pickup. A fully documented ADA-compliant unit, used when an inspector or venue asks for paperwork, runs about $400. Ask which one you need — most private parties only need wheelchair access.
How much is a restroom trailer for a wedding?
A two-stall restroom trailer runs about $1,900–$2,900 per event in the Rio Grande Valley, including delivery, setup, cleaning and pickup. The site needs a garden hose and a standard 110-volt outlet. Larger trailers are quoted per event.
Are there extra fees like fuel or card charges?
No. Eric Rental Works quotes one all-in price: unit, delivery, pickup, stocking and tax. Many companies add a fuel surcharge (about $35 in calls we reviewed) and a 3% card fee after the quote. Ours does not. Only a same-day fee or an extra service visit can be added, and only if you ask for them.
Do I have to pay for a full month if I only need it two weeks?
Usually yes, and it is the cheaper option. Jobsite units bill in 28-day cycles with weekly cleaning included. A weekly rate costs more per day because the delivery and pickup trips still happen. Call for pickup the day the work ends and billing stops that day.
Why does last-minute delivery cost more?
A same-day unit pulls a driver off a planned route, often on overtime. In calls we reviewed, rush quotes ran $100–$215 above the normal price. Eric Rental Works quotes the same-day fee before you pay, and booking even one business day ahead usually removes it.
How do I pay? Do you take cash?
Pay by Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover or debit card over the phone or through a secure link. You get an invoice by text and email to review and e-sign. We do not collect cash at delivery.
Is my card charged now or after the event?
The full event price is charged when you book, which reserves the unit and the truck. If you cancel more than 24 hours before delivery, the charge is refunded in full; banks usually post the refund in a few business days.
Units
Is the event porta potty nice, or old and beat up?
Event units are kept separate from construction units. Party and wedding units go out clean, unscratched and fully stocked — not the scuffed boxes you see on job sites. Ask dispatch to text you a photo of the exact unit before delivery.
Does the unit with a sink need plumbing or a hose?
No. The deluxe 2-in-1 carries its own fresh water for the sink and flush, so nothing hooks up. It gives about 150 flushes, and the urinal means not every visit uses a flush. It comes stocked with soap, paper towels and toilet paper.
Can guests see into the tank on the flushing unit?
No. When you flush, a lid closes over the opening, so guests never look into the tank. That is why hosts choose it for weddings, engagement parties, graduations and quinceañeras.
Does it have to be ADA, or just wheelchair accessible?
For most private parties, wheelchair accessible is enough: a wide, ground-level unit a wheelchair can roll into. A documented ADA-compliant unit is for public events and sites where an inspector or venue will check paperwork. The compliant unit costs more, so ask dispatch which one your event needs.
Do you rent hand washing stations?
Yes. A standalone two-sink handwash station runs about $199 per event and is refilled on multi-day events. Food vendors, festivals and jobsites use them most. For small parties, the deluxe 2-in-1 unit with a built-in sink is usually the better buy.
What does a restroom trailer need on site?
A restroom trailer needs a garden hose connection, a standard 110-volt outlet reachable with an extension cord, and level ground the truck can back onto. It is the only unit we rent that needs hookups. Without them, choose deluxe 2-in-1 units instead.
Can I move the porta potty myself with my tractor?
Please don't. Units should only be moved by our crew, empty, on a dolly or truck. A unit tipped or cracked while being moved is billed to the renter. Call dispatch and we will relocate it for you.
Do you pump out RV holding tanks?
Yes. RV and camper pump-outs in the Valley run about $175 per visit. Give dispatch the tank size if you know it and how far the truck can park from the RV — under 50 feet is easy. Winter Texan parks and long-stay sites can set up a recurring pump-out.
Service & site
How often is the porta potty cleaned?
Units on 28-day rentals are serviced once a week: pumped, scrubbed, deodorized and restocked. Event units arrive clean and stocked. Festivals and multi-day events can add a mid-event service, such as a Saturday-night clean before a Sunday crowd.
Will it smell in McAllen heat?
Heat speeds up odor, and Valley afternoons regularly pass 100°F in summer. Keep the unit in shade if you can, turn the vent away from seating, and keep weekly service. Busy summer jobsites should add a second service visit. One caller put it plainly: as the week goes on, heat makes it progressively worse.
Can it go at the end of the street instead of my yard?
Keep it on your own property. If a city inspector sees a unit in the street or right-of-way, the rental company gets a call. Place it just inside your property line, on a flat spot, ideally in shade.
I have low-hanging cable wires over my driveway. Is that a problem?
Tell dispatch when you book. Drivers note low cable and internet wires, then call before arrival so you can guide them in. If the truck can't clear them, the crew sets the unit by hand truck from the street side.
I have a dog on the property. What should I do?
Secure pets before the delivery window. Drivers have to walk past fences and gates to set the unit, so a dog inside the house or a closed run keeps everyone safe.
Can you deliver to a field down a dirt road?
Yes, if the road is firm. Ranch, farm and campout deliveries are common. Send a map pin, tell us about gates and low spots, and avoid placing the unit where rain collects. After a heavy Valley storm we may wait for the ground to firm up.
Rules & permits
How many porta potties does my crew need?
OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51 Table D-1 requires 1 toilet for 20 or fewer workers, then 1 seat and 1 urinal per 40 workers, and 1 seat and 1 urinal per 50 workers at 200 or more. Valley heat is a good reason to go above the minimum.
What do farm field crews need?
OSHA 29 CFR 1928.110 requires 1 toilet and 1 handwashing facility for every 20 field workers, within a quarter-mile walk of where they work. The rule applies when 11 or more workers are in the field. A towable unit-plus-sink setup can move with the crew between fields.
Does a public event need a handicap unit?
Where portable restrooms serve the public, the 2010 ADA Standards section 213.2 calls for at least 5% of units in each cluster, and no fewer than one, to be accessible. In our call log, a 2,000-person festival had not planned any until dispatch asked. Plan at least one.
Do I need a McAllen permit for my event?
Restrooms alone do not need a city permit. Parades, street closures, mass gatherings and street events need a City of McAllen special event permit, and food sales need a temporary food permit from Health and Code Enforcement at least two weeks ahead. Confirm with the city before you plan your restroom count.
Booking & company
Can I cancel if something happens?
Yes. Cancel up to 24 hours before scheduled delivery for a full refund — bad weather, a change of plans, anything. Cancellations within 24 hours of delivery are not refundable, because the truck and unit are already committed.
How does booking work?
Dispatch takes the address, dates, unit and an on-site contact, then texts and emails an invoice. Open the text, tap Sign Invoice, scroll to the bottom and sign with your finger. The text usually arrives faster than the email; check spam if the email is slow.
¿Hablan español?
Sí. Eric Rental Works tiene despacho bilingüe. Llame al (956) 396-3589 y pida atención en español para cotizar, programar la entrega o pedir la recolección.
Are you a local company or a broker?
Eric Rental Works is a local operator at 1712 Fresno Ave in McAllen with its own units and drivers. When you call, the person on the phone schedules our own truck, quotes the all-in price and can confirm your delivery day on the spot.
How do I end a long-term rental?
Call or text dispatch at (956) 396-3589. Long-term units are not picked up automatically, so billing continues until you request pickup. Billing stops on the day you call, and the unit is collected within 1–2 business days.
Do you serve Winter Texan RV parks and resorts?
Yes. From November through March, Eric Rental Works sets units and handwash stations for RV park events, dances and craft fairs, and runs recurring RV pump-outs. Book season-long service in October before parks fill up.
Can you set up restrooms after a hurricane or flood?
Yes, as roads allow. Restoration crews, shelters and homes without water service can rent units on short notice after Valley storms. During hurricane season (June 1–November 30), we stake units on open sites and pull or secure them before a named storm when asked.
How many porta potties do I need for 30, 60 or 100 guests?
For a 4-hour party: 30–50 guests need 1 unit, 60–100 guests need 2, and 100–150 need 3. Add 1 unit for every 4 when alcohol is served. One caller planned 1 unit for 100 guests — we recommend 2 so the line never backs up.
